Nahum 1
The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
The LORD is a jealous and avenging God — the LORD is avenging and lord of fury; the LORD avenges his adversaries, and he bears a grudge against his enemies.
The LORD is slow to anger and great in power, and he will by no means acquit the guilty. The LORD — his way is in the whirlwind and storm, and clouds are the dust of his feet.
He rebukes the sea and dries it up; all the rivers he lays waste. Bashan and Carmel wither, and the blossom of Lebanon withers.
The mountains quake before him, and the hills melt away; the earth heaves before him — the world and all who dwell in it.
Before his indignation who can stand, and who can rise up against the burning of his anger? His fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are shattered before him.
The LORD is good, a fortress in the day of distress; he cares for those who take refuge in him.
With an overwhelming flood he will make a complete end of her place, and his enemies he will pursue into darkness.
What are you plotting against the LORD? He is making a complete end; distress will not arise a second time.
For like entangled thorn bushes, and like those drenched in their own drink, they will be consumed like fully dried stubble.
From you went out one who plots evil against the LORD, a counselor of wickedness.
Thus says the LORD: Even though they are at full strength, and even so are many, they will be cut off and pass away. Though I have afflicted you, I will afflict you no more.
And now I will break his yoke-bar from off you, and your bonds I will tear apart.
The LORD has commanded concerning you: from your name shall no more be sown. From the house of your gods I will cut off carved idol and cast image; I will make your grave, for you are despised.
Behold, upon the mountains the feet of one who brings good news, who proclaims peace! Celebrate your feasts, O Judah! Fulfill your vows! For the wicked one shall no more pass through you; he is completely cut off.
