Matthew 9

And having embarked into a boat, he passed over and came to his own city.

And behold, they were bringing to him a paralytic laid on a bed. And seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, 'Take courage, son; your sins are forgiven.'

And behold, some of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemes!

And Jesus, seeing their thoughts, said, 'Why do you think evil in your hearts?'

For which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Arise and walk'?

But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on the earth to forgive sins, then he says to the paralytic, Having arisen, take up your mat and go to your house.

And he arose and went away to his house.

Now when the crowds saw it, they were filled with awe, and glorified God, who had given such authority to men.

And as Jesus was passing on from there, he saw a man sitting at the tax booth, named Matthew, and he says to him, Follow me. And having arisen, he followed him.

And it came about, as he was reclining at table in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples.

And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, 'Why does your teacher eat with the tax collectors and sinners?'

But Jesus, having heard it, said to them, Those who are strong have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.

But go and learn what this means, I desire mercy and not sacrifice; for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Then the disciples of John come to him, saying, 'Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?'

And Jesus said to them, Can the sons of the bridechamber mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.

But no one puts a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for its patch tears away from the garment, and a worse tear results.

Neither do they put new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wineskins burst, and the wine is poured out and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.

While he was speaking these things to them, behold, a leader, having come, was kneeling down to him, saying, 'My daughter has just now died; but come, lay your hand upon her, and she will live.'

And having arisen, Jesus followed him, and so did his disciples.

And behold, a woman suffering a flow of blood for twelve years, having come up behind, touched the fringe of his garment.

For she kept saying within herself, If only I touch his garment, I will be healed.

But Jesus, having turned and seen her, said, 'Take courage, daughter; your faith has healed you.' And the woman was healed from that hour.

And when Jesus came into the leader's house and saw the flute players and the crowd in an uproar,

he was saying, Withdraw, for the girl is not dead but sleeps. And they were laughing at him.

But when the crowd had been put outside, he entered and took hold of her hand, and the girl arose.

And this report went out into all that region.

And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying out and saying, 'Have mercy on us, Son of David!'

And when he had come into the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus says to them, Do you believe that I am able to do this? They say to him, Yes, Lord.

Then he touched their eyes, saying, 'According to your faith let it be done to you.'

And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, saying, 'See that no one knows of it.'

But they, having gone out, spread the news about him throughout all that region.

And as they were going out, behold, they brought to him a mute man who was demon-possessed.

And when the demon had been cast out, the mute man spoke. And the crowds marveled, saying, Never was it seen thus in Israel.

But the Pharisees were saying, 'By the ruler of the demons he casts out the demons.'

And Jesus was going about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.

And when he saw the crowds, he was moved with compassion for them, because they were harassed and downcast, like sheep not having a shepherd.

Then he says to his disciples, 'The harvest indeed is plentiful, but the workers are few;

Beseech therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he may send out laborers into his harvest.
