Matthew 28

¹Now after the Sabbath, as it was dawning toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the tomb.

²And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord, having descended from heaven and having come, rolled away the stone and was sitting upon it.

³Now his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow.

⁴And from fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men.

⁵But the angel answered and said to the women: Do not be afraid, you; for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.

⁶He is not here, for he has been raised, just as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord was lying.

⁷And go quickly and tell his disciples that he has been raised from the dead, and behold, he goes before you into Galilee; there you will see him. Behold, I have told you.

⁸So they went away quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to announce it to his disciples.

⁹Now as they were going to report to his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying: Greetings! And they came to him and took hold of his feet and worshiped him.

¹⁰Then Jesus says to them: Do not be afraid; go, announce to my brothers that they are to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.

¹¹Now as they were going, behold, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all the things that had happened.

¹²And gathering together with the elders and taking counsel, they gave a large sum of silver to the soldiers,

¹³saying: Say that his disciples came by night and stole him while we were sleeping.

¹⁴And if this is heard before the governor, we ourselves will persuade him and keep you out of trouble.

¹⁵And they, taking the silver, did as they were instructed. And this story has been spread abroad among the Jews to this present day.

¹⁶So the eleven disciples went into Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had appointed them.

¹⁷And when they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.

¹⁸Then Jesus came and spoke to them, saying: All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

¹⁹Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

²⁰teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And remember, I myself am with you all the days, until the completion of the age.
