Matthew 10
And having summoned his twelve disciples, he gave them authority over unclean spirits, so as to cast them out and to heal every disease and every sickness.
Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: first Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, and James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother,
Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, the very one who betrayed him.
These twelve Jesus sent forth, having instructed them, saying, Do not go off into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter into any city of the Samaritans;
but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
And as you go, proclaim, saying that the kingdom of the heavens has drawn near.
Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.
Do not acquire gold, nor silver, nor copper for your belts,
nor a bag for the journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor a staff; for the worker is worthy of his food.
And whatever city or village you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and there remain until you go forth.
And as you enter the house, greet it.
And if indeed the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.
And whoever will not receive you, nor hear your words, as you go forth out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
Truly I say to you, it will be more bearable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.
Behold, I myself send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves; be therefore shrewd as the serpents and innocent as the doves.
But beware of men; for they will hand you over to councils, and in their synagogues they will flog you;
and you will be brought before governors and kings on account of me, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.
But when they deliver you up, do not be anxious how or what you are to speak; for it will be given to you in that hour what you are to speak.
For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.
And brother will hand over brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and put them to death.
And you will be hated by all on account of my name; but the one who has endured to the end, he will be saved.
A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a slave above his master.
It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household!
Therefore do not fear them; for nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be made known.
What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim upon the housetops.
And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; but rather be afraid of the One who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.
Are not two sparrows sold for an assarion? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.
But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.
Therefore do not fear; you are worth more than many sparrows.
Therefore everyone who confesses me before men, I also will confess him before my Father who is in the heavens.
But whoever denies me before men, I myself also will deny him before my Father who is in the heavens.
Do not think that I came to bring peace upon the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
And a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.
The one who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and the one who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;
And whoever does not take his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me.
The one who finds his life will lose it, and the one who loses his life on account of me will find it.
The one who receives you receives me, and the one who receives me receives the One who sent me.
The one who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and the one who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man will receive a righteous man's reward.
And whoever gives to one of these little ones only a cup of cold water to drink in the name of a disciple, amen I say to you, he will certainly not lose his reward.
