Mark 8

In those days, again a great crowd being present and not having anything to eat, Jesus, having called his disciples to him, says to them;

I have compassion on the crowd, because they have already stayed with me three days and have nothing to eat.

And if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way; and some of them have come from a distance.

And his disciples answered him, From where will anyone be able to satisfy these people with bread here in this desolate place?

And he asked them, How many loaves do you have? And they said, Seven.

And he commands the crowd to recline on the ground, and having taken the seven loaves, having given thanks, he broke them and was giving them to his disciples that they might set them before the crowd; and they set them before the crowd.

And they had a few small fish; and having blessed them, he ordered that these also be set before them.

And they ate and were satisfied, and they took up the leftover fragments -- seven large baskets full.

Now there were those who had eaten about four thousand; and he sent them away.

And immediately, having boarded the boat with his disciples, he came into the region of Dalmanutha.

And the Pharisees went out and began to argue with him, seeking from him a sign from heaven, testing him.

And having sighed deeply in his spirit, he says, Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation.

And having left them, he climbed again into the boat and went away to the other side.

And they had forgotten to take loaves, and except for one loaf they did not have any with them in the boat.

And he was charging them, saying, 'Watch out, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.'

And they were reasoning among themselves, saying, We have no bread.

And knowing it, Jesus says to them: 'Why do you reason because you do not have loaves? Do you not yet perceive nor understand? Is your heart still hardened?'

Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember?

When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you pick up? They say to him, 'Twelve.'

And when the seven loaves were for the four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you pick up? And they say to him, Seven.

And he was saying to them, 'Do you not yet understand?'

And they come to Bethsaida, and they bring to him a blind man and implore him that he might touch him.

And taking hold of the hand of the blind man, he led him out of the village, and having spit upon his eyes, having laid his hands upon him, he was asking him, 'Do you see anything?'

And having looked up, he was saying, I see the men, for I see them walking like trees.

Then again he placed his hands upon his eyes, and he caused him to look intently, and he was restored and was seeing all things clearly.

And he sent him to his house, saying, Do not even enter into the village, nor tell anyone in the village.

And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea Philippi, and on the way he was asking his disciples, saying to them, ‘Who do people say that I am?’

And they said to him, 'John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.'

And he himself was questioning them, But you, whom do you say me to be? And Peter answering says to him, You are the Christ.

And he strictly charged them that they should tell no one about him.

And he began to teach them that it is necessary for the Son of Man to suffer many things, and to be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and to be killed, and after three days to rise.

And he was speaking the word openly. And Peter, having taken him aside, began to rebuke him.

But he, having turned and seen his disciples, rebuked Peter and says, ‘Get behind me, Satan! For you are not minding the things of God but the things of men.’

And having called the crowd to himself together with his disciples, he said to them, If anyone wishes to follow after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life because of me and because of the gospel, this one will save it.

For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?

For what can a person give in exchange for his life?

For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
