Mark 5

And they came to the other side of the sea, to the region of the Gerasenes.

And immediately, when he had come out of the boat, a man with an unclean spirit came out from the tombs and met him,

who had his dwelling in the tombs. And no one was able to bind him any longer, not even with a chain,

because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him and the shackles shattered, and no one was able to subdue him.

And continually, night and day, among the tombs and in the mountains, he was crying out and cutting himself with stones.

And having seen Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell down before him,

And having cried out with a loud voice, he says, 'What have I to do with you, Jesus, Son of God Most High? I adjure you by God, do not torment me.'

for he was saying to him, 'Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!'

And he was asking him, What is your name? And he answered him, saying, Legion is my name, for we are many.

And he was imploring him earnestly that he would not send them out of the region.

Now there was there near the hill a great herd of pigs feeding.

And all the demons begged him, saying, 'Send us into the pigs, so that we may enter into them.'

And Jesus permitted them immediately. And the unclean spirits came out and entered into the pigs; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea -- there were about two thousand -- and they were choked in the sea.

Now those who had been tending the pigs fled and reported it in the city and in the countryside. And they came to see what it was that had happened.

And they come to Jesus and see the demonized man sitting and clothed and in his right mind, the one who had had the legion, and they were afraid.

And those who had seen it told them how it had happened to the demonized one, and about the pigs.

And they began to implore him to depart from their region.

And as he was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed was begging him that he might be with him.

But Jesus did not permit him, but says to him, 'Go to your home to your own people and report to them how much the Lord has done for you and had mercy on you.'

And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him, and all were marveling.

And when Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered to him; and he was beside the sea.

And one of the synagogue rulers comes, named Jairus, and seeing him, he falls at his feet.

and he begs him earnestly, saying, 'My little daughter is at the point of death; come, lay your hands on her so that she may be healed and live.'

And he went with him, and a large crowd was following him and pressing in on him.

And a woman who had had a flow of blood for twelve years,

and having suffered much under many physicians, and having spent all that was hers, and having benefited nothing at all, but rather having become worse,

having heard the things about Jesus, she came in the crowd from behind and touched his garment.

For she was saying to herself, If I touch even his garments, I will be healed.

And immediately the flow of her blood dried up, and she knew in her body that she had been healed of her affliction.

And immediately Jesus, having perceived in himself the power that had gone out from him, turned around in the crowd and was saying: 'Who touched my garments?'

And his disciples were saying to him, 'You see the crowd pressing in on you, and you say, "Who touched me?"'

And he was looking around to see the woman who had done this.

And the woman, having been frightened and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before him and told him the whole truth.

And he said to her, 'Daughter, your faith has healed you; go in peace and be healthy from your affliction.'

While he was still speaking, they come from the house of the synagogue ruler, saying: 'Your daughter has died; why do you still trouble the Teacher?'

But Jesus, immediately ignoring the word that was spoken, said to the synagogue ruler, Do not fear, only believe.

And he did not allow anyone to follow along with him except Peter and James and John the brother of James.

And they come to the house of the synagogue ruler, and he observes a commotion and people weeping and wailing loudly.

And having entered, he says to them, Why do you make a commotion and weep? The child has not died, but is sleeping.

And they were laughing at him. But he himself, having put them all out, takes the father of the child and the mother and those with him and enters in where the child was lying.

And taking hold of the hand of the child, he says to her, 'Talitha koum,' which is, being translated, 'Little girl, I say to you, arise.'

And immediately the girl arose and was walking -- for she was twelve years of age -- and they were immediately amazed with great amazement.

And he gave strict orders that no one should know this, and said to give her something to eat.
