Luke 5
Now it came to pass that while the crowd was pressing upon him to hear the word of God, he was standing beside the lake of Gennesaret,
and he saw two boats standing by the lake. But the fishermen had disembarked from them and were washing the nets.
And getting into one of the boats, which was Simon's, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And sitting down he was teaching the crowds from the boat.
And when he had stopped speaking, he said to Simon, 'Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.'
And Simon answered and said to him, 'Master, we labored through the whole night and took nothing — yet at your word I will let down the nets.'
And when they had done this they enclosed a great multitude of fish, and their nets were beginning to break.
And they beckoned to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both boats so that they were beginning to sink.
But when Simon Peter saw it he fell down at Jesus's knees, saying, 'Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, Lord.'
For amazement had seized him and all those with him, at the catch of fish that they had taken,
and likewise also James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, 'Do not fear; from now on you will be catching men.'
And when they had brought the boats to land, they left everything and followed him.
And it came to pass that while he was in one of the towns, behold, a man full of leprosy. And seeing Jesus he fell on his face and begged him, saying, 'Lord, if you are willing, you are able to cleanse me.'
And stretching out his hand he touched him, saying, 'I am willing; be cleansed.' And immediately the leprosy departed from him.
And he ordered him to tell no one, but, 'Go and show yourself to the priest and make an offering for your cleansing, as Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.'
But the report about him was spreading all the more, and great crowds were coming together to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses.
But he himself would withdraw to the desolate places and pray.
And it came to pass on one of the days that he himself was teaching; and there were sitting Pharisees and teachers of the law, who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and Jerusalem; and the power of the Lord was with him to heal.
And behold, men carrying on a stretcher a man who was paralyzed, and they were seeking to bring him in and to lay him before him.
And not having found by what way they might bring him in because of the crowd, having gone up onto the housetop they let him down through the tiles with the little stretcher into the middle before Jesus.
And having seen their faith he said to him: Man, your sins have been forgiven you.
And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying: Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who is able to forgive sins except God alone?
But Jesus, having perceived their reasonings, answered and said to them: Why do you reason in your hearts?
Which is easier, to say: Your sins have been forgiven you, or to say: Arise and walk?
But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on the earth to forgive sins,... he said to the one who was paralyzed: I say to you, arise and having taken up your little stretcher, go to your house.
And immediately having stood up before them, having taken up what he had been lying on, he departed to his house glorifying God.
And amazement seized all, and they were glorifying God and were filled with fear, saying that we have seen remarkable things today.
And after these things he went out and observed a tax collector named Levi sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him: Follow me.
And having left all things, having arisen, he was following him.
And Levi made a great banquet for him in his house, and there was a great multitude of tax collectors and of others who were reclining with them.
And the Pharisees and their scribes were grumbling toward his disciples, saying: Why do you eat and drink with the tax collectors and sinners?
And Jesus answered and said to them: Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.
I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
And they said to him: The disciples of John fast often and offer prayers, and likewise also those of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink.
And Jesus said to them: You are not able to make the sons of the bridechamber fast while the bridegroom is with them, are you?
But days will come, and when the bridegroom is taken away from them, then they will fast in those days.
And he was also speaking a parable to them, that no one having torn a piece from a new garment puts it on an old garment; and if he does otherwise, both the new will tear, and the piece from the new will not match the old.
And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; and if he does otherwise, the new wine will burst the wineskins and it will be spilled out, and the wineskins will be destroyed;
But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins.
And no one having drunk old wine desires new, for he says: The old is good.
