Luke 13

Now at that very time there were some present who were telling him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.

And answering, Jesus said to them: 'Do you suppose that these Galileans were sinners beyond all the Galileans, because they suffered these things?'

No, I say to you, but unless you repent, you will all perish in like manner.

Or those eighteen upon whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them — do you suppose that they were debtors beyond all the men who dwell in Jerusalem?

No, I say to you, but unless you repent, you will all perish in the same way.

And he was telling this parable: a certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none.

And he said to the vinedresser: 'Look, for three years I have been coming seeking fruit on this fig tree and do not find any; cut it down therefore — why does it even deplete the ground?'

And answering he says to him: 'Lord, leave it also this year, until I dig around it and put in manure;'

If it bears fruit in the coming year — but if not, you will cut it down.

He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.

And behold, there was a woman having a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years, and she was bent over and not able to straighten herself up at all.

When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said to her: Woman, you have been freed from your infirmity.

And he laid his hands upon her, and immediately she was made straight and began to glorify God.

But the ruler of the synagogue, being indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, answered and said to the crowd: There are six days in which it is necessary to work; come on those days and be healed and not on the day of the Sabbath.

But the Lord answered him and said: Hypocrites! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger and lead it away to water it?

But this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound, behold, for eighteen years, was it not necessary that she be freed from this bond on the day of the Sabbath?

And as he said these things, all who opposed him were put to shame, and all the crowd was rejoicing over all the glorious things being done by him.

He then said: What is the kingdom of God like, and to what shall I compare it?

It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and threw into his own garden; it grew and became a great tree, and the birds of the sky nested in its branches.

And again he said: To what shall I compare the kingdom of God?

It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, until the whole was leavened.

And he was passing through towns and villages, teaching and making his way toward Jerusalem.

And someone said to him: Lord, are those who are being saved few? And he said to them:

Strive to enter through the narrow door, for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

Once the master of the house arises and shuts the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying: Lord, Lord, open for us — he will answer you: I do not know where you are from.

Then you will begin to say: We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.

But he will say to you: I do not know where you are from; depart from me, all you workers of iniquity.

There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but yourselves being thrown outside.

And they will come from east and west, and from north and south, and recline at table in the kingdom of God.

And behold, there are last ones who will be first, and there are first ones who will be last.

At that very hour some Pharisees came and said to him: Go and depart from here, for Herod wants to kill you.

But he said to them: Go and say to that fox: Behold, I cast out demons and perform healings today and tomorrow, and on the third day I am brought to completion.

Nevertheless, I must journey on today and tomorrow and the following day, for it is not possible that a prophet should perish outside Jerusalem.

Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you! How often have I wanted to gather your children in the way a hen gathers her own brood under her wings, and you were not willing!

Behold, your house is forsaken. And I tell you, you will certainly not see me until the time comes when you will say: Blessed is the one coming in the name of the Lord.
