Luke 10
After these things, the Lord appointed seventy-two others also, and sent them out two by two before his face, into every city and place where he himself was about to come.
Then he said to them: The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.
Go; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.
Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals; and greet no one along the road.
And into whatever house you enter, first say: Peace to this house.
And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him; but if not, it will return to you.
In that same house remain, eating and drinking what is provided by them; for the worker is worthy of his wages. Do not move from house to house.
And whenever you enter a city and they receive you, eat what is set before you.
Heal the sick who are in it, and say to them: The kingdom of God has drawn near to you.
But whenever you enter a city and they do not receive you, going out into its streets say:
Even the dust from your city that clings to our feet, we wipe off against you; yet know this, that the kingdom of God has drawn near.
I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom on that day than for that city.
Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
Yet it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you.
And you, Capernaum — will you be exalted to heaven? You will be brought down to Hades.
Whoever hears you hears me, and whoever rejects you rejects me; and whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me.
Then the seventy-two returned with joy, saying: Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name.
Then he said to them: I was beholding Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall by any means harm you.
Yet do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you; but rejoice rather that your names have been written in the heavens.
In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said: I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and the discerning, and revealed them to babes. Yes, Father, for thus it was your gracious will.
And turning to the disciples he said: All things have been delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.
Then turning to the disciples privately he said: Blessed are the eyes that see what you see;
for I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.
And behold, a certain lawyer stood up to test him, saying: Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
And he said to him: What is written in the law? How do you read it?
And he answered and said: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.
Then he said to him: You have answered correctly; do this and you will live.
But he, wishing to justify himself, said to Jesus: And who is my neighbor?
Then Jesus took up the question and said: A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among robbers, who both stripped him and inflicted wounds on him, and went away, leaving him half dead.
Now by chance a certain priest was going down on that road, and seeing him, he passed by on the opposite side.
And likewise a Levite also, having come to the place and seen him, passed by on the opposite side.
But a certain Samaritan who was journeying came to where he was, and seeing him, was moved with compassion.
He approached and bound up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them; and putting him on his own animal, he brought him to an inn and took care of him.
And on the next day he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper and said to him: Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I return.
Which of these three, do you think, became a neighbor to the one who fell among the robbers?
And he said: The one who showed mercy toward him. So Jesus said to him: Go, and you do likewise.
Now it came to pass as they were going along that he himself entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat down at the feet of the Lord and was listening to his word.
But Martha was distracted with much service; so she came up and said: Lord, does it not concern you that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her therefore to help me.
But the Lord answered and said to her: Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things;
but few things are needed, or only one; for Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.
