Leviticus 17

¹And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

²Speak to Aaron and to his sons and to all the people of Israel and say to them: 'This is the thing that the LORD has commanded, saying:'

³Any man from the house of Israel who slaughters an ox or a sheep or a goat in the camp, or who slaughters outside the camp,

⁴and has not brought it to the entrance of the tent of meeting to present it as an offering to the LORD before the tabernacle of the LORD — bloodguilt shall be reckoned to that man; he has shed blood, and that man shall be cut off from among his people.

⁵So that the people of Israel shall bring their sacrifices which they sacrifice in the open field, and bring them to the LORD at the entrance of the tent of meeting, to the priest, and sacrifice them as peace offerings to the LORD.

⁶And the priest shall splash the blood on the altar of the LORD at the entrance of the tent of meeting, and shall burn the fat as a soothing aroma to the LORD.

⁷And they shall no longer offer their sacrifices to the goat demons after whom they are whoring. This shall be an everlasting statute for them throughout their generations.

⁸And to them you shall say: 'Any man of the house of Israel, or of the sojourners who sojourn among them, who offers a burnt offering or sacrifice,

⁹And does not bring it to the entrance of the tent of meeting to offer it to the LORD, that man shall be cut off from his people.

¹⁰And any man from the house of Israel or from the sojourners who sojourn among them who eats any blood, I will set my face against that person who eats blood and will cut that person off from among their people.

¹¹For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I myself have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your lives; for it is the blood that by means of the life makes atonement.

¹²Therefore I said to the children of Israel: no person among you shall eat blood, and the sojourner who sojourns in your midst shall not eat blood.

¹³And any man from the sons of Israel or from the sojourners who sojourn among them who hunts game of wild animal or flying thing that may be eaten — he shall pour out its blood and cover it with dust.

¹⁴For the life of all flesh — its blood is its life. And I said to the children of Israel: you shall not eat the blood of any flesh, for the life of all flesh is its blood. All who eat it shall be cut off.

¹⁵And every person who eats an animal that died of itself or that was torn — whether native or sojourner — shall wash his garments and bathe in water and be unclean until evening, and then be clean.

¹⁶But if he does not wash his garments and does not bathe his body, he shall bear his iniquity.
