John 7

And after these things Jesus was walking in Galilee, for he did not want to walk in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him.

Now the feast of the Jews, the Feast of Booths, was near.

His brothers therefore said to him, 'Depart from here and go into Judea, so that your disciples also will see your works that you are doing;'

For no one does anything in secret and himself seeks to be in the open. If you do these things, show yourself to the world.

For not even his brothers were believing in him.

Jesus therefore said to them, 'My time has not yet arrived, but your time is always ready.'

The world is not able to hate you, but it hates me, because I testify about it that its works are evil.

You go up to this feast; I am not going up to this feast, because my time has not yet been fulfilled.'

And having said these things, he himself remained in Galilee.

But when his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also himself went up, not openly but as it were in secret.

The Jews therefore were seeking him at the feast and were saying, 'Where is that man?'

And there was much murmuring about him among the crowds. Some were saying, 'He is good,' while others were saying, 'No, but he leads the crowd astray.'

However, no one was speaking about him openly, because of the fear of the Jews.

Now when the feast was already at its midpoint, Jesus went up into the temple and was teaching.

The Jews therefore were marveling, saying, 'How does this man know letters, not having been taught?'

Jesus therefore answered them and said, 'My teaching is not mine but belongs to the one who sent me.'

If anyone wills to do his will, he will know concerning the teaching whether it is from God or I speak from myself.

The one speaking from himself seeks his own glory; but the one seeking the glory of the one who sent him, this one is true, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

Has not Moses given you the law? And yet not one of you keeps the law. Why do you seek to kill me?

The crowd answered and said: You have a demon! Who is seeking to kill you?

Jesus answered and said to them: I did one work, and you all marvel.

Because of this Moses has given you circumcision — not that it is from Moses but from the fathers — and on the Sabbath you circumcise a man.

If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me because I made a whole man sound on the Sabbath?

Do not judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

Therefore some of the Jerusalemites were saying: Is this not the one whom they seek to kill?

And behold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Could it be that the rulers have truly recognized that this is the Christ?

But this man we know where he is from; yet when the Christ comes, no one knows where he is from.

Therefore Jesus cried out in the temple while teaching and said: You know me, and you know where I am from; and I have not come from myself, but the one who sent me is genuine, whom you do not know.

I, however, know him, because I am from him, and he sent me.

Therefore they were seeking to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.

But many of the crowd believed in him, and they were saying: When the Christ comes, will he do more signs than these that this man has done?

The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things about him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest him.

Therefore Jesus said to them: Yet a little while I am with you, and then I go to the one who sent me.

You will seek me and will not find me, and where I am you are not able to come.

The Jews therefore said among themselves: Where is this man about to go that we will not find him? Is he about to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks?

What is this word that he said: You will seek me and will not find me, and where I am you are not able to come?

Now on the last, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out saying: If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.

The one who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within him.

Now he said this concerning the Spirit, which those who believed in him were about to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.

Therefore many from the crowd, when they heard these words, were saying: This is truly the Prophet.

Others were saying: This is the Christ. But others were saying: Surely the Christ does not come from Galilee, does he?

Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?

Therefore a division occurred in the crowd because of him.

And some of them were wanting to seize him, but no one laid hands on him.

Therefore the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and those said to them: Why did you not bring him?

The officers answered: Never has a man spoken like this.

Therefore the Pharisees answered them: Surely you also have not been deceived, have you?

Surely none of the rulers or of the Pharisees has believed in him, have they?

But this crowd that does not know the law — they are accursed.

Nicodemus says to them — the one who had come to him before, being one of them —

Surely our law does not judge a man unless it first hears from him and knows what he does, does it?

They answered and said to him: Are you also from Galilee? Search and see that a prophet does not arise from Galilee.
