Genesis 41

And it was at the end of two years of days that Pharaoh was dreaming, and look, he was standing by the Nile.

And behold, from the Nile there came up seven cows, beautiful of appearance and fat of flesh, and they grazed in the meadow.

And look, seven other cows came up after them out of the Nile, bad in appearance and thin in flesh, and they stood beside the cows on the bank of the Nile.

And the cows bad in appearance and thin in flesh ate the seven cows good in appearance and fat. And Pharaoh awoke.

And he slept and dreamed a second time, and look — seven ears of grain coming up on a single stalk, fat and good.

And look, seven ears of grain, thin and scorched by the east wind, sprouted after them.

And the thin ears swallowed the seven fat and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and look, it was a dream.

And it was in the morning that his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called all the magicians of Egypt and all her wise men, and Pharaoh recounted to them his dream, but there was none who interpreted them for Pharaoh.

And the chief of the cupbearers spoke to Pharaoh, saying, 'My offenses I call to mind today.'

Pharaoh was angry at his servants, and put me in custody in the house of the chief of the guards, me and the chief of the bakers.

And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he, each man according to the interpretation of his dream we dreamed.

And there with us was a Hebrew youth, a servant of the captain of the guards, and we recounted to him, and he interpreted for us our dreams — each according to his dream he interpreted.

And it came to pass, just as he had interpreted to us, so it was: me he restored to my position, and him he hanged.

And Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they hurried him from the pit, and he shaved and changed his clothes, and he came in to Pharaoh.

And Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'A dream I have dreamed, and there is no one to interpret it, and I have heard it said of you that you hear a dream and can interpret it.'

And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, 'Not within me — God will answer the welfare of Pharaoh.'

And Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, 'In my dream, look — I was standing on the bank of the Nile.'

And behold, from the Nile there came up seven cows, fat of flesh and beautiful of appearance, and they grazed in the reeds.

And behold, seven other cows came up after them, gaunt and bad of appearance, very much so, and thin of flesh — the like of them I had never seen in all the land of Egypt for badness.

And the lean and bad cows ate the seven first fat cows.

And they came into their innards, but it was not known that they had come into their innards, for their appearance was bad, as at the beginning. And I awoke.

And I saw in my dream, and behold, seven ears coming up on a single stalk, full and good.

And behold, seven ears, withered, thin, scorched by the east wind, sprouting after them.

And the thin ears swallowed up the seven good ears, and I told it to the magicians, but there was no one telling it to me.

And Joseph said to Pharaoh, Pharaoh's dream is one. What God is about to do, he has told to Pharaoh.

The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good ears of grain are seven years — it is one dream.

And the seven lean and bad cows coming up after them are seven years, and the seven empty ears scorched by the east wind will be seven years of famine.

It is the thing of which I spoke to Pharaoh: what God is about to do he has shown to Pharaoh.

Look, seven years of great abundance are coming throughout all the land of Egypt.

And seven years of famine will arise after them, and all the abundance will be forgotten in the land of Egypt, and the famine will consume the land.

And the abundance will not be known in the land because of that famine which follows after, for it will be very heavy.

And as for the dream being repeated to Pharaoh twice, it is because the thing is established by God, and God is hastening to do it.

And now let Pharaoh look for a man discerning and wise, and let him set him over the land of Egypt.

Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint overseers over the land, and let him take a fifth of the land of Egypt during the seven years of abundance.

And let them gather all the food of those good years that are coming, and let them heap up grain under the hand of Pharaoh — food in the cities — and let them keep it.

And the food will be a reserve for the land for the seven years of famine that will be in the land of Egypt, so that the land will not be cut off by the famine.

And the matter was good in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of all his servants.

And Pharaoh said to his servants, 'Can we find such a man as this, one in whom is the spirit of God?'

And Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'After God has made known to you all this, there is none so discerning and wise as you.'

You shall be over my house, and at your command all my people shall be governed. Only by the throne will I be greater than you.

And Pharaoh said to Joseph: See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.

And Pharaoh removed his ring from upon his hand and put it upon the hand of Joseph. And he clothed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold necklace on his neck.

And he had him ride in the second chariot that was his, and they called out before him, 'Abrech!' — and he set him over all the land of Egypt.

And Pharaoh said to Joseph: I am Pharaoh — and without you no man shall lift his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt.

And Pharaoh called the name of Joseph Zaphenath-paneah. And he gave him Asenath daughter of Potiphera priest of On as a woman. And Joseph went out over the land of Egypt.

And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from before Pharaoh and passed through all the land of Egypt.

And the land produced in the seven years of abundance by handfuls.

And he gathered all the food of the seven years that were in the land of Egypt, and he put food in the cities — the food of the field of the city that was around it, he put within it.

And Joseph stored grain like the sand of the sea, very much, until he ceased to count, for there was no number.

And to Joseph were born two sons before the year of famine came, whom Asenath daughter of Potiphera priest of On bore to him.

And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh, for God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father's house.

And the name of the second he called Ephraim, for God had made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.

And the seven years of abundance that was in the land of Egypt came to an end.

And the seven years of famine began to come, just as Joseph had said. And there was famine in all the lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.

And all the land of Egypt was hungry, and the people cried out to Pharaoh for food. And Pharaoh said to all Egypt: Go to Joseph. What he says to you, do.

And the famine was over all the face of the land. And Joseph opened all in which there was, and he sold grain to Egypt. And the famine was severe in the land of Egypt.

And all the earth came to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph, for the famine was severe in all the earth.
