Genesis 4
Now the man knew Havah his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and she said: I have created a man along with the Lord.
And she added to give birth to his brother, to Abel. And Abel was a keeper of flocks, and Cain, he was a worker of the ground.
And it came to pass at the end of days that Cain brought from the fruit of the ground an offering to the Lord.
And Abel, he also brought from the firstborn of his flock and from their fat portions. And the Lord looked with favor upon Abel and upon his offering.
But to Cain and to his offering he did not have regard. And it was very hot to Cain, and his face fell.
And the Lord said to Cain: Why are you incensed, and why has your face fallen?
Is it not that if you do well, there is lifting? And if you do not do well, at the door sin crouches, and toward you is its desire, and you, you will rule over it.
And Cain said to Abel his brother. And it came to pass when they were in the field, and Cain arose against Abel his brother, and killed him.
And the Lord said to Cain: Where is Abel your brother? And he said: I do not know. My brother's keeper — am I?
And he said: What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood is crying out to me from the ground.
And now, cursed are you from the ground, which opened its mouth to take the blood of your brother from your hand.
When you work the ground it will no longer give its strength to you. A wanderer and a fugitive you shall be on the earth.
And Cain said to the Lord: My iniquity is too great to bear.
Look, you have driven me out today from the face of the ground, and from your face I shall be hidden, and I shall be a wanderer and a fugitive on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me.
And the Lord said to him: Therefore, everyone who kills Cain shall be avenged sevenfold. And the Lord set for Cain a sign, so that none who found him would strike him.
And Cain went out from the face of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, east of Eden.
And Cain knew his woman, and she conceived and bore Enoch. And he was building a city, and he called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch.
And to Enoch was born Irad, and Irad fathered Mehujael, and Mehujael fathered Methushael, and Methushael fathered Lamech.
And Lamech took for himself two women. The name of the one was Adah, and the name of the second was Zillah.
And Adah bore Jabal. He, he was the father of those who dwell in tents and keep livestock.
And the name of his brother was Jubal. He, he was the father of everyone who plays the lyre and the pipe.
And Zillah, she also bore Tubal-cain, the sharpener of every cutting tool of bronze and iron. And the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.
And Lamech said to his women: Adah and Zillah, hear my voice! Women of Lamech, give ear to my word! For a man I killed for my wound, and a youth for my bruise.
For if Cain is avenged sevenfold, then Lamech seventy-sevenfold.
And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son, and called his name Seth, for God has appointed for me another seed in place of Abel, for Cain killed him.
And to Seth — also to him a son was born. And he called his name Enosh. Then it was begun to call in the name of the Lord.
