Genesis 28

And Isaac called Jacob and blessed him and commanded him and said to him, You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan.

Arise, go to Paddan-Aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother's father, and take for yourself a wife from there, from the daughters of Laban your mother's brother.

And El Shaddai will bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you, and you will become an assembly of peoples.

And may he give you the blessing of Abraham, to you and to your seed with you, to possess the land of your sojournings, which God gave to Abraham.

And Isaac sent Jacob, and he went to Paddan-Aram, to Laban son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah the mother of Jacob and Esau.

And Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him to Paddan-Aram to take for himself a wife from there, when he blessed him and commanded him, saying, You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan.

And Jacob heard his father and his mother, and went to Paddan-aram.

And Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan were bad in the eyes of Isaac his father.

And Esau went to Ishmael and took Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael son of Abraham, the sister of Nebaioth, in addition to his wives, for himself as a wife.

And Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran.

And he came upon a place, and lodged there, for the sun had come in. And he took from the stones of the place and put them at his head, and lay down in that place.

And he dreamed, and look — a stairway was set up on the earth, and its head reached to the heavens. And look — messengers of God were ascending and descending on it.

And look, the Lord was standing over him and said, I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. The land upon which you are lying, to you I will give it and to your seed.

And your seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and you shall break through to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south, and all the families of the ground shall be blessed through you and through your seed.

And look, I am with you and will keep you in all that you go, and will bring you back to this ground, for I will not forsake you until I have done what I have spoken to you.

And Jacob woke from his sleep, and said, Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know.

And he was afraid and said, How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of the heavens.

And Jacob rose early in the morning, and he took the stone that he had placed at his head, and he set it up as a pillar, and he poured oil upon its top.

And he called the name of that place Bethel, but Luz was the name of the city formerly.

And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, 'If God will be with me and will keep me on this way that I am going, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear,

and I return in peace to the house of my father, then the Lord will be my God.'

And this stone that I have set as a pillar shall be the house of God, and all that you give me I will tithe to you.
