Exodus 9
And the Lord said to Moses: Go in to Pharaoh and speak to him: Thus says the Lord, the God of the Hebrews: Let my people go, that they may serve me.
For if you are refusing to send them away and are still holding them back,
Behold, the hand of Yhwh is about to fall upon your livestock that is in the field — upon the horses, upon the donkeys, upon the camels, upon the cattle, and upon the flocks — a very severe pestilence.
And the Lord will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt, and nothing of all that belongs to the sons of Israel shall die.
And the LORD set an appointed time, saying, Tomorrow the LORD will do this thing in the land.
And the Lord did this thing on the morrow, and all the livestock of Egypt died. But of the livestock of the sons of Israel not one died.
And Pharaoh sent, and behold, not one of the livestock of Israel had died; and the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not let the people go.
And the LORD said to Moses and to Aaron, Take handfuls of you all of soot from a kiln, and let Moses scatter it toward the heavens before the eyes of Pharaoh.
and it shall become fine dust over all the land of Egypt. And it shall become on man and on animal as a boil breaking out in blisters throughout all the land of Egypt.
And they took soot from the kiln and stood before Pharaoh, and Moses scattered it toward the heavens, and it became festering boils breaking out on man and beast.
And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils, for the boils were on the magicians and on all the Egyptians.
And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he did not listen to them, just as the Lord had spoken to Moses.
And the LORD said to Moses, Rise early in the morning and station yourself before Pharaoh, and say to him, Thus says the LORD, the God of the Hebrews: Send my people away so that they may serve me.
For this time I am sending all my plagues against your heart, and against your servants, and against your people, so that you may know that there is none like me in all the earth.
For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people with pestilence, and you would have been cut off from the earth.
But indeed for this I have kept you standing, in order to show you my power, and so that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.
You are still exalting yourself against my people by not letting them go.
Behold, I am about to rain down at about this time tomorrow very heavy hail, such as has not been in Egypt from the day it was founded until now.
Now send and bring your livestock and all that you have in the field to safety. Every human and animal that is found in the field and is not brought inside — the hail will come down on them and they will die.
Whoever among the servants of Pharaoh feared the word of the Lord made his servants and his livestock flee into the houses.
But whoever did not take the word of Yhwh to heart left his servants and his livestock in the field.
And the Lord said to Moses: Stretch out your hand over the heavens, so that there may be hail throughout all the land of Egypt, upon man and upon animal and upon all the vegetation of the field in the land of Egypt.
And Moses stretched out his rod toward the heavens, and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and fire ran down to the earth, and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt.
And hail fell, with fire flashing within the hail — very heavy, such as had never been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.
And the hail struck throughout all the land of Egypt everything that was in the field, both man and animal. And the hail struck all the vegetation of the field and shattered every tree of the field.
Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, there was no hail.
And Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and Aaron and said to them: I have sinned this time. The Lord is righteous, and I and my people are the wicked ones.
Intercede with the Lord, for there has been enough of the mighty thunder and hail, and I will let you go, and you will stay no longer.
And Moses said to him, As soon as I go out of the city, I will spread out my hands to the LORD; the thunder will cease and there will be no more hail, so that you may know that the earth belongs to the LORD.
But as for you and your servants, I know that you do not yet fear the Lord God.
Now the flax and the barley were struck down, for the barley was in the ear and the flax was in bud.
But the wheat and the spelt were not struck down, for they are late-ripening.
And Moses went out from Pharaoh, out of the city, and spread out his hands to the Lord, and the thunder and the hail ceased, and rain no longer poured down upon the earth.
And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunder had ceased, he sinned again, and he hardened his heart, he and his servants.
And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not let the children of Israel go, just as Yhwh had spoken by the hand of Moses.
