Exodus 6

¹The Lord said to Moses: Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh; for with a strong hand he will let them go, and with a strong hand he will drive them out of his land.

²And God spoke to Moses and said to him: I am the Lord.

³And I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as El Shaddai, but by my name YHWH I was not known to them.

⁴I also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan — the land of their sojournings, in which they sojourned.

⁵And moreover, I myself have heard the groaning of the sons of Israel whom Egypt is making serve as slaves, and I have remembered my covenant.

⁶Therefore, say to the sons of Israel: I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of Egypt, and I will rescue you from their labor, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments.

⁷And I will take you all to me as a people, and I will be to you all as God, and you all will know that I am the Lord your God, who brings you all out from under the burdens of Egypt.

⁸And I will bring you all into the land that I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, and I will give it to you all as a possession — I am YHWH.

⁹Moses spoke thus to the sons of Israel, but they did not listen to him because of their shortness of spirit and because of the harsh labor.

¹⁰And YHWH spoke to Moses, saying:

¹¹Go in, speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he send the sons of Israel out from his land.

¹²Moses spoke before the Lord, saying: Look, the sons of Israel did not listen to me; how then will Pharaoh listen to me, since I am of uncircumcised lips?

¹³And YHWH spoke to Moses and to Aaron and commanded them concerning the sons of Israel and concerning Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, to bring the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt.

¹⁴These are the heads of their fathers' houses. The sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel: Hanoch and Pallu, Hezron and Carmi. These are the families of Reuben.

¹⁵And the sons of Simeon: Jemuel and Jamin and Ohad and Jachin and Zohar and Saul the son of the Canaanite woman. These are the clans of Simeon.

¹⁶And these are the names of the sons of Levi, according to their generations: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. And Levi was one hundred and thirty-seven years old.

¹⁷The sons of Gershon: Libni and Shimei, by their families.

¹⁸And the sons of Kohath: Amram and Izhar and Hebron and Uzziel. Kohath was 133 years old.

¹⁹And the sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites by their generations.

²⁰Amram took Jochebed his aunt as his wife, and she bore him Aaron and Moses. And Amram was one hundred and thirty-seven years old.

²¹And the sons of Izhar: Korah, Nepheg, and Zichri.

²²And the sons of Uzziel: Mishael and Elizaphan and Sithri.

²³And Aaron took Elisheba, the daughter of Amminadab, the sister of Nahshon, for himself as a wife, and she bore him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

²⁴And the sons of Korah: Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph. These are the families of the Korahites.

²⁵Eleazar son of Aaron took for himself one of the daughters of Putiel as a wife for himself, and she bore him Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers of the Levites by their clans.

²⁶It is this Aaron and Moses to whom YHWH said: Bring out the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt according to their companies.

²⁷It is they who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt to bring out the sons of Israel from Egypt — it is Moses and Aaron.

²⁸On the day when the Lord spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt,

²⁹And YHWH spoke to Moses, saying: I am YHWH — speak to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, all that I am speaking to you.

³⁰And Moses said before the Lord: Look, I am uncircumcised of lips — how will Pharaoh listen to me?
