Exodus 13
And Yhwh spoke to Moses, saying:
Consecrate to me every firstborn, the firstling of every womb among the children of Israel — of man and of beast; it is mine.
And Moses said to the people: Remember this day, on which you came out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, for with a strong hand Yhwh brought you out from here; and no leavened bread shall be eaten.
Today you are going out, in the month of Abib.
And it will be, when Yhwh brings you to the land of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Hivite and the Jebusite, which he swore to your fathers to give you — a land flowing with milk and honey — that you shall keep this service in this month.
Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day is a feast to Yhwh.
Unleavened bread shall be eaten for the seven days, and leavened bread shall not be seen with you, and leaven shall not be seen with you throughout all your territory.
And you shall tell your son on that day, saying: It is because of this that Yhwh did for me when I came out of Egypt.
And it shall be to you as a sign on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes, so that the instruction of Yhwh may be in your mouth, for with a strong hand Yhwh brought you out of Egypt.
And you shall keep this statute at its appointed time, from year to year.
And it shall be when the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanite, as he swore to you and to your fathers, and gives it to you,
you shall cause to pass over to the LORD every one that opens the womb, and every firstling that is dropped by your animals — the males belong to the LORD.
And every firstling of a donkey you shall redeem with a sheep, and if you do not redeem it you shall break its neck; and every firstborn of man among your sons you shall redeem.
And it shall be, when your son asks you tomorrow, saying, 'What is this?' that you shall say to him, 'With strength of hand YHWH brought us out from Egypt, from the house of slaves.'
And it came to pass, when Pharaoh hardened himself against letting us go, that the LORD killed every firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man and the firstborn of animal; therefore I sacrifice to the LORD every male that opens the womb, and every firstborn of my sons I redeem.
And it shall be a sign upon your hand and as frontlets between your eyes, for by strength of hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt.
And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had sent the people away, that God did not lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said: Lest the people repent when they see war and return to Egypt.
So God led the people around by the way of the wilderness toward the Sea of Reeds; and the children of Israel went up armed out of the land of Egypt.
And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for he had earnestly made the children of Israel swear, saying: God will surely visit you, and you shall bring up my bones from here with you.
And they journeyed from Succoth and camped at Etham, at the edge of the wilderness.
And the LORD was going before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them on the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day and by night.
He did not remove the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.
