Amos 6

Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, and to those who are secure on the mountain of Samaria — the notable ones of the foremost of nations, to whom the house of Israel comes!

Pass through Calneh and see, / and go from there to Hamath the Great; / then go down to Gath of the Philistines. / Are they better than these kingdoms? / Is their territory greater than your territory?

O you who put off the day of disaster and bring near the throne of violence!

Those who lie on beds of ivory / and sprawl upon their couches, / and eat lambs from the flock / and calves from the stall —

who strum on the harp, who like David devise for themselves musical instruments;

those who drink wine from bowls / and anoint themselves with the finest of oils, / but are not grieved over the ruin of Joseph!

Therefore now they shall go into exile at the head of the exiles, and the banquet of those who sprawl shall pass away.

The Lord GOD has sworn by himself — the declaration of the LORD, God of hosts: 'I loathe the pride of Jacob and hate his citadels; and I will deliver up the city and all that is in it.'

And it shall be, if ten men remain in one house, they shall die.

And his close relative and the one who burns the body shall carry him out to bring bones from the house; and he shall say to the one in the recesses of the house, 'Is there anyone still with you?' And he shall say, 'No one.' Then he shall say, 'Hush! For we must not invoke the name of the LORD.'

For behold, the LORD is commanding, and he will strike the great house into fragments and the small house into rubble.

Do horses run on rock? Or does one plow the sea with oxen? Yet you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood.

those who rejoice in Lo-debar, / those who say, 'Have we not by our own strength taken Karnaim for ourselves?'

For behold, I am raising up against you, O house of Israel — the declaration of the LORD, the God of hosts — a nation, and they will oppress you from Lebo-hamath to the Brook of the Arabah.
