Amos 4
Hear this word, you cows of Bashan who are on the mountain of Samaria — those who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who say to their husbands, 'Bring, that we may drink!'
The Lord GOD has sworn by his holiness: Behold, days are coming upon you when you shall be carried away with hooks, even the last of you with fishhooks.
And you shall go out through the breaches, each one straight ahead of her, and you shall be cast to Harmon, declares the LORD.
Come to Bethel and transgress; at Gilgal multiply your transgressions! Bring your sacrifices every morning and your tithes every three days.
Burn a thank offering of leavened bread, and proclaim freewill offerings, announce them aloud — for you love to do this, O sons of Israel, declares the Lord GOD.
And I — I gave you cleanness of teeth in all the cities of you all, and lack of bread in all the places of you all; yet you did not return to me, declares the LORD.
And also I — I withheld the rain from you when there were still three months to the harvest. I rained on one city and did not rain on another city; one field was rained on, while the field upon which it did not rain withered.
And two or three cities staggered to one city to drink water, but were not satisfied; yet you did not return to me, declares the LORD.
I struck you with blight and mildew, and the locust devoured the many gardens of you all, the vineyards of you all, the fig trees of you all, and the olive trees of you all; yet you did not return to me, declares the LORD.
I sent pestilence among you after the manner of Egypt; I killed the young men of you all with the sword, along with the capture of the horses of you all, and I brought up the stench of the camps of you all to the nostrils of you all; yet you did not return to me, declares the LORD.
I overthrew some among you as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you became like a burning stick snatched from the fire; yet you did not return to me, declares the LORD.
Therefore thus I will do to you, O Israel; / because I will do this to you, / prepare to meet your God, O Israel!
For behold, the one who forms mountains and creates wind, and declares to man what his thought is, who makes dawn darkness, and treads upon the heights of the earth— LORD, God of hosts, is his name.
