Acts 18

Now after these things Paul departed from Athens and came to Corinth.

And he found a certain Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to leave Rome; and he came to them.

And because he was of the same trade, he stayed with them and worked; for they were tentmakers by trade.

And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and tried to persuade both Jews and Greeks.

And when both Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul became wholly absorbed in the word, solemnly testifying to the Jews that the Christ was Jesus.

But when they opposed him and reviled him, he shook out his garments and said to them, 'Your blood be on your own heads! I am innocent. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.'

And moving on from there, he went to the house of a certain man named Titius Justus, a worshiper of God, whose house was adjoining the synagogue.

And Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord together with his whole household; and many of the Corinthians, hearing, believed and were baptized.

And the Lord said to Paul in the night through a vision, Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent,

because I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many people in this city.

And he settled there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews rose up with one accord against Paul and brought him before the judgment seat,

saying, This man is persuading people to worship God contrary to the law.

But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, 'If it were a matter of some wrong or wicked crime, O Jews, I would have reason to bear with you;

but if they are questions about a word and names and your own law, see to it yourselves; I do not wish to be a judge of these things.

And he drove them away from the judgment seat.

And they all seized Sosthenes the ruler of the synagogue and began beating him before the judgment seat; and none of these things was of concern to Gallio.

Now Paul, having remained many more days, took leave of the brothers and sailed away to Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila, after he had shaved his head at Cenchrea, for he had a vow.

And they came to Ephesus, and he left them there; but he himself entered the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.

Now when they asked him to remain for a longer time, he did not consent.

But having taken leave of them and saying, ’It is necessary for me by all means to keep the coming feast in Jerusalem; but I will return to you again, God willing,’ he set sail from Ephesus.

And having put in at Caesarea, and having gone up and greeted the church, he went down to Antioch.

And having spent some time, he went out, passing through the Galatian region and Phrygia one after another, strengthening all the disciples.

Now a certain Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by birth, an eloquent man, arrived at Ephesus, being mighty in the Scriptures.

This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and being fervent in spirit he was speaking and teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus, though he knew only the baptism of John.

And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue; but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and expounded to him the way of God more accurately.

And when he wanted to cross over to Achaia, the brothers, encouraging him, wrote to the disciples to welcome him; and when he arrived, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace,

For he vigorously refuted the Jews in public, showing through the Scriptures that the Christ was Jesus.
