Acts 14

And it came to pass in Iconium that they entered the synagogue of the Jews in the same way, and spoke so effectively that a great number of both Jews and Greeks believed.

But the Jews who disbelieved stirred up and poisoned the minds of the Gentiles against the brothers.

So then they stayed a long time, speaking boldly in reliance on the Lord, who was bearing witness to the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done through their hands.

Now the populace of the city was divided, and some were with the Jews, but others with the apostles.

But when there arose an inclination of both the Gentiles and the Jews, together with their rulers, to mistreat and to stone them,

they, becoming aware of it, fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe and the surrounding region,

and there they were preaching the gospel.

And a certain man at Lystra, powerless in his feet, was sitting, being lame from his mother's womb, who had never walked.

This man listened to Paul speaking, who, looking intently at him and seeing that he had faith to be healed,

he said with a loud voice, 'Stand up on your feet, upright!' And he leaped up and began to walk.

And the crowds, having seen what Paul did, lifted up their voice in Lycaonian, saying, 'The gods, having become like men, have come down to us!'

And they began to call Barnabas Zeus, and Paul Hermes, since he was the chief speaker.

And the priest of Zeus, whose temple was before their city, bringing oxen and wreaths to the gates, wished, together with the crowds, to sacrifice.

But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of it, they tore their garments and rushed out into the crowd, crying out

and saying, 'Men, why are you doing these things? We ourselves also are men of like nature with you, bringing you good news, that you should turn from these vain things to the living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all the things in them,

who in past generations allowed all the nations to go in their own ways;

And yet he did not leave himself without witness, doing good, giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness.

And by saying these things they scarcely restrained the crowds from sacrificing to them.

But Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and having persuaded the crowds and stoned Paul, they were dragging him outside the city, supposing him to be dead.

But when the disciples surrounded him, having risen up, he entered into the city; and on the next day he went out with Barnabas to Derbe.

And when they had preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch;

strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God.

And when they had appointed elders for them in each church, with prayer and fasting they entrusted them to the Lord in whom they had believed.

And having passed through Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia,

And when they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia;

And from there they sailed to Antioch, from where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work which they had fulfilled.

And on arriving and gathering the church together, they reported all that God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles.

And they stayed there no little time with the disciples.
