2 Samuel 8
1After this, David struck the Philistines and subdued them, and David took Metheg-ammah from the control of the Philistines.
2And he struck Moab and measured them with a cord, laying them down on the ground; he measured two cord-lengths to put to death, and the full cord-length to keep alive. So Moab became subject to David, bearing tribute.
3David struck Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to restore his power at the River Euphrates.
4David captured from him 1,700 horsemen and 20,000 foot soldiers. David hamstrung all the chariot horses but kept 100 of them.
5When Aram of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down twenty-two thousand men of Aram.
6And David placed garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and Aram became subject to David, bearing tribute. And the Lord saved David wherever he went.
7David took the golden shields that were on the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.
8From Betah and from Berothah, cities of Hadadezer, King David took a very great amount of bronze.
9When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had struck down all the army of Hadadezer,
10Toi sent his son Joram to King David to ask after his welfare and to bless him, because David had fought against Hadadezer and struck him; for Hadadezer had been a man of wars with Toi. In his hand were vessels of silver, vessels of gold, and vessels of bronze.
11Also these King David consecrated to the Lord, with the silver and the gold that he had consecrated from all the nations that he had subdued.
12from Aram, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, and Amalek, and from the plunder of Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah.
13David made a name for himself when he returned from defeating eighteen thousand Arameans in the Valley of Salt.
14He placed garrisons in Edom; in all of Edom he placed garrisons, and all Edom became servants to David. And the Lord saved David wherever he went.
15David reigned over all Israel, and David was executing justice and righteousness for all his people.
16Joab son of Zeruiah was over the army, and Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was the recorder.
17Zadok son of Ahitub and Ahimelech son of Abiathar were priests, and Seraiah was secretary.
18Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were priests.
