2 Kings 14
1In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, Amaziah son of Joash, king of Judah, began to reign.
2Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.
3And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, yet not as David his father; according to all that Joash his father had done, he did.
4However, the high places were not removed; the people were still sacrificing and burning incense at the high places.
5And it came to pass, when the kingdom was firm in his hand, that he struck his servants who had struck the king his father.
6But the sons of the murderers he did not put to death, as it is written in the book of the Torah of Moses, which the LORD commanded, saying, 'Fathers shall not be put to death on account of sons, and sons shall not be put to death on account of fathers, but a man shall be put to death for his own sin.'
7He struck down Edom in the Valley of Salt, ten thousand, and captured Sela in battle, and called its name Joktheel until this day.
8Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us meet face to face.
9And Jehoash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, 'The thistle that is in Lebanon sent to the cedar that is in Lebanon, saying, Give your daughter to my son as a wife. But a wild beast of the field that is in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle.'
10You have indeed struck down Edom, and your heart has lifted you up. Be glorified, and stay in your house; for why should you stir up trouble so that you fall -- you and Judah with you?
11But Amaziah would not listen. And Jehoash king of Israel went up, and he and Amaziah king of Judah confronted one another at Beth-shemesh, which belongs to Judah.
12And Judah was defeated before Israel, and they fled, every man to his tent.
13Jehoash king of Israel captured Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Jerusalem and broke through the wall of Jerusalem from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate, four hundred cubits.
14And he took all the gold and silver and all the vessels that were found in the house of the Lord and in the treasuries of the palace, and also the hostages, and returned to Samaria.
15And the rest of the acts of Jehoash and all that he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah -- are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
16And Jehoash lay down with his fathers and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel, and Jeroboam his son reigned in his place.
17And Amaziah son of Joash, king of Judah, lived fifteen years after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel.
18Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
19And they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish and put him to death there.
20And they carried him on horses, and he was buried in Jerusalem with his fathers in the City of David.
21And all the people of Judah took Azariah -- he was sixteen years old -- and made him king in place of his father Amaziah.
22He built Elath and restored it to Judah, after the king lay down with his fathers.
23In the fifteenth year of Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah, Jeroboam son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, forty-one years.
24And he did what was bad in the eyes of the Lord; he did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin.
25He restored the border of Israel from Lebo-hamath to the Sea of the Arabah, according to the word of the LORD, the God of Israel, which he spoke by the hand of his servant Jonah son of Amittai, the prophet, who was from Gath-hepher.
26For the LORD saw the affliction of Israel, rebelling very greatly, with none restrained and none set free, and there was no helper for Israel.
27And the LORD had not spoken to wipe out the name of Israel from under the heavens, so he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam son of Joash.
28Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam and all that he did and his might, how he fought and how he restored Damascus and Hamath to Judah in Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
29And Jeroboam lay down with his fathers, with the kings of Israel, and Zechariah his son reigned in his place.
