2 Chronicles 7

1When Solomon finished praying, the fire came down from the heavens and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the house.

2And the priests were not able to enter the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord had filled the house of the Lord.

3And all the sons of Israel were watching when the fire came down and the glory of the Lord was upon the house, and they bowed down with their faces to the ground upon the pavement and worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying, 'For he is good, for his loyal love endures forever.'

4And the king and all the people were offering sacrifice before the Lord.

5And King Solomon sacrificed twenty-two thousand cattle and one hundred and twenty thousand sheep, and so the king and all the people dedicated the house of God.

6And the priests were standing at their posts, and the Levites with the instruments of song to the Lord, which David the king had made to give thanks to the Lord, for his steadfast love endures forever, when David offered praise through them; and the priests were sounding trumpets opposite them, while all Israel was standing.

7Solomon consecrated the middle of the court that was before the house of the Lord, for there he offered the burnt offerings and the fat portions of the peace offerings, because the bronze altar that Solomon had made was not able to contain the burnt offering and the grain offering and the fat portions.

8And Solomon held the feast at that time for seven days, and all Israel with him, a very great assembly, from Lebo-hamath to the wadi of Egypt.

9And on the eighth day they held a solemn assembly, for the dedication of the altar they had observed for seven days, and the feast for seven days.

10And on the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people to their tents, glad and good of heart for the goodness that the Lord had done for David and for Solomon and for Israel his people.

11So Solomon finished the house of the Lord and the house of the king, and all that Solomon had purposed in his heart to do in the house of the Lord and in his own house he successfully accomplished.

12And the Lord appeared to Solomon in the night and said to him, 'I have heard your prayer, and I have chosen this place for myself as a house of sacrifice.'

13When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or when I command the locust to devour the land, or when I send pestilence among my people,

14and my people who are called by my name humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from the heavens and forgive their sin and heal their land.

15Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer of this place.

16And now I have chosen and consecrated this house for my name to be there forever, and my eyes and my heart shall be there always.

17And as for you, if you walk before me as David your father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded you, and keep my statutes and my ordinances,

18then I will establish the throne of your kingdom, as I covenanted with David your father, saying, 'There shall not fail you a man ruling over Israel.'

19But if you all turn away and forsake my statutes and my commandments that I have set before you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them,

20then I will uproot them from my land that I have given to them, and this house that I have consecrated for my name I will cast away from before my face, and I will make it a proverb and a taunt among all peoples.

21And this house, which was exalted, everyone who passes by it will be appalled and will say, 'Why has the Lord done thus to this land and to this house?'

22And they will say, 'Because they forsook the Lord God of their ancestors who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and they grasped other gods and bowed down to them and served them — therefore he has brought all this disaster upon them.'
