2 Chronicles 17

¹And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his place, and he strengthened himself over Israel.

²He placed troops in all the fortified cities of Judah and set garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim that Asa his father had captured.

³And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, for he walked in the earlier ways of David his father and did not seek the Baals.

⁴For he sought the God of his fathers and walked in his commandments, and not after the practices of Israel.

⁵And the LORD established the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah brought tribute to Jehoshaphat, and he had riches and glory in abundance.

⁶His heart was lifted up in the ways of the Lord; and furthermore he removed the high places and the Asherah poles from Judah.

⁷In the third year of his reign he sent his officials Ben-hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah to teach in the cities of Judah.

⁸With them were the Levites: Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tobadonijah the Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram the priests.

⁹And they taught in Judah, and the scroll of the law of the Lord was with them; and they went through all the cities of Judah and taught among the people.

¹⁰And the dread of the Lord came upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were around Judah, and they did not make war with Jehoshaphat.

¹¹And some of the Philistines were bringing tribute and silver in loads to Jehoshaphat; and the Arabs also were bringing him flocks: seven thousand seven hundred rams and seven thousand seven hundred male goats.

¹²And Jehoshaphat kept growing greater and greater, and he built fortresses and store-cities in Judah.

¹³And he had great stores of work in the cities of Judah, and men of war, mighty warriors, in Jerusalem.

¹⁴These are their musters by their ancestral houses: of Judah, the commanders of thousands - Adnah the commander, and with him three hundred thousand mighty warriors;

¹⁵And under his command was Johanan the commander, and with him two hundred eighty thousand.

¹⁶And next to him was Amasiah son of Zichri, who had volunteered himself to the Lord, and with him two hundred thousand mighty warriors.

¹⁷And from Benjamin, Eliada, a mighty man of valor, and with him two hundred thousand armed with bow and shield.

¹⁸And under his command was Jehozabad, and with him one hundred eighty thousand armed for war.

¹⁹These were the ones who served the king, besides those whom the king had placed in the fortified cities throughout all Judah.
