Corinthians 8

Now concerning things sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.

But if anyone thinks he has come to know something, he does not yet know anything as he ought to know.

But if anyone loves God, this person has been known by him.

Concerning therefore the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no God but one.

For even if there are those called gods, whether in heaven or on earth — as indeed there are many gods and many lords —

yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we are for him, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and we are through him.

But this knowledge is not in all; rather, some, being accustomed to the idol until now, eat as idol-sacrifice, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.

But food will not commend us to God; for neither if we do not eat are we worse off, nor if we eat are we better off.

But take care that this right of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.

For if anyone sees you, the one who has knowledge, reclining at table in an idol's temple, will not his conscience, being weak, be built up to eat the things sacrificed to idols?

For the one who is weak is being destroyed by your knowledge — the brother for whom Christ died.

And thus, sinning against the brothers and wounding their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.

Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will eat no meat ever again, so that I may not cause my brother to stumble.
