Corinthians 10
For I do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,
and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,
and all ate the same spiritual food,
and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock that was following them, and the rock was Christ.
Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased; for they were laid low in the wilderness.
Now these things became types for us, so that we should not be desirers of evil things, just as they also desired.
Do not become idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: 'The people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.'
Neither let us commit sexual immorality, just as some of them committed sexual immorality, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day.
Nor let us test Christ, as some of them tested him, and were destroyed by serpents.
Nor grumble, as some of them grumbled and were destroyed by the Destroyer.
Now these things happened to them as types, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
Therefore, let the one who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
No temptation has overtaken you except what is human; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but will also make with the temptation the way of escape, so that you may be able to endure it.
Therefore, my beloved ones, flee from idolatry.
I speak as to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say.
The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ?
Because there is one loaf, we who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one loaf.
Consider Israel according to the flesh: are not those who eat the sacrifices partakers of the altar?
What then do I mean? That food sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?
No, I mean that what the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I do not want you to become sharers with demons.
You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.
Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?
'All things are lawful,' but not all things are profitable. 'All things are lawful,' but not all things build up.
Let no one seek his own good, but that of the other, each one.
Everything sold in the meat market, eat, asking no questions on account of conscience;
for 'the earth is the Lord's, and everything in it.'
If any of the unbelievers invites you and you wish to go, eat everything that is set before you, making no inquiry on account of conscience.
But if anyone says to you, 'This is food offered in sacrifice,' do not eat it, on account of the one who pointed it out, and on account of conscience;
I mean not your own conscience, but the other person's. For why should my freedom be judged by another's conscience?
If I partake with thankfulness, why am I spoken against regarding that for which I give thanks?
Whether therefore you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all things to the glory of God.
Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God,
just as I also please all people in all things, not seeking my own advantage but that of the many, that they may be saved.
