Chronicles 9

All Israel enrolled themselves by genealogy, and they are recorded in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah, who were carried away to Babylon because of their unfaithfulness.

Now the first inhabitants who settled in their holdings in their cities were Israel, the priests, the Levites, and the temple servants.

And in Jerusalem there dwelt from the sons of Judah, and from the sons of Benjamin, and from the sons of Ephraim and Manasseh.

Uthai son of Ammihud, son of Omri, son of Imri, son of Bani, from the sons of Perez son of Judah.

And from the Shilonites: Asaiah the firstborn and his sons.

And from the sons of Zerah: Jeuel, and their brothers, six hundred and ninety.

And from the sons of Benjamin: Sallu son of Meshullam son of Hodaviah son of Hassenuah.

Ibneiah son of Jeroham, Elah son of Uzzi son of Michri, and Meshullam son of Shephatiah son of Reuel son of Ibnijah.

And their brothers, by their genealogies, were nine hundred and fifty-six; all these were men, heads of ancestral houses for the house of their fathers.

And from the priests: Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, and Jachin.

Azariah son of Hilkiah, son of Meshullam, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, the leader of the house of God.

Adaiah son of Jeroham son of Pashhur son of Malchijah, and Maasai son of Adiel son of Jahzerah son of Meshullam son of Meshillemith son of Immer.

And their brothers, chiefs in their ancestral houses, were one thousand seven hundred and sixty — warriors of valor for the work of service of the house of God.

And from the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah, from the sons of Merari.

Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal, and Mattaniah son of Mica son of Zichri son of Asaph.

And Obadiah son of Shemaiah, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun; and Berechiah son of Asa, son of Elkanah, who dwelt in the villages of the Netophathite.

And the gatekeepers: Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, and Ahiman; and their kinsman Shallum was the chief.

And until now, at the King's Gate on the east, they are the gatekeepers for the camps of the sons of Levi.

And Shallum son of Kore, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, and his brothers of his father's house, the Korahites, over the work of service, keepers of the thresholds of the tent; and their forefathers over the camp of the LORD, keepers of the entrance.

And Phinehas son of Eleazar was leader over them in former times; the LORD was with him.

Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was the gatekeeper of the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.

All of them, the ones chosen as gatekeepers at the thresholds, were two hundred and twelve. They were enrolled by genealogy in their villages. David and Samuel the seer established them in their faithful service.

They and their sons had charge of the gates of the house of the LORD and of the house of the tent, for guard duty.

To the four directions there were gatekeepers: east, west, north, and south.

And their brothers in their villages were to come in for seven days, from time to time, with these.

For in faithfulness were they, the four chief gatekeepers; they were Levites, and they were over the chambers and over the treasuries of the house of God.

They lodged around the house of God, for the guard duty was upon them, and they were in charge of the key morning by morning.

And some of them were in charge of the service articles, for by count they would bring them in and by count take them out.

And some of them were appointed over the vessels, and over all the vessels of the sanctuary, and over the fine flour, the wine, the oil, the frankincense, and the spices.

And some of the sons of the priests were mixers of the spiced ointment for the spices.

And Mattithiah, one of the Levites—he was the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite—was faithfully in charge of the work of the flat cakes.

And some of the sons of the Kohathites, from their brothers, were in charge of the bread of the row, to prepare it every Sabbath.

And these were the singers, heads of ancestral houses among the Levites, in the chambers, released from other service; for the work was upon them day and night.

These are the heads of the fathers of the Levites according to their genealogies—the chiefs; these dwelt in Jerusalem.

And in Gibeon dwelt the father of Gibeon, Jeiel, and the name of his wife was Maacah.

And his firstborn son was Abdon, Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, and Nadab.

Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah, and Mikloth.

Mikloth fathered Shimeam. They also dwelt opposite their brothers in Jerusalem, alongside their brothers.

Ner fathered Kish, and Kish fathered Saul, and Saul fathered Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab, and Eshbaal.

The son of Jonathan was Meribbaal; and Meribbaal begot Micah.

The sons of Micah: Pithon, Melech, and Tahrea.

Ahaz fathered Jarah, and Jarah fathered Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri fathered Moza.

Moza begot Binea; Rephaiah was his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son.

And Azel had six sons, and these were their names: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.
