Chronicles 17
And it came to pass, when David had settled in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, 'Look, I am dwelling in a house of cedars, while the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under tent curtains.'
And Nathan said to David, 'All that is in your heart, do, for God is with you.'
And it came about that night that the word of God came to Nathan, saying:
Go and tell David my servant, 'Thus says the Lord: It is not you who will build me a house to dwell in.'
For I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought up Israel to this day, but I have been going from tent to tent and from tabernacle to tabernacle.
Wherever I walked among all Israel, did I speak a word with any of the judges of Israel whom I commanded to shepherd my people, saying, 'Why have you not built me a house of cedar?'
And now, thus you shall say to my servant David, 'Thus says the Lord of hosts: I took you from the pasture, from following the flock, to be nagid over my people Israel.'
And I have been with you in all that you went, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make for you a name like the name of the great ones who are in the earth.
And I will appoint a place for my people Israel and plant them, and they will dwell in their own place and be disturbed no more; and sons of wickedness shall no longer wear them out, as formerly.
And from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel, I will subdue all your enemies; and I declare to you: the Lord will build you a house.
And it shall come about that when your days are fulfilled to go with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, one who shall be from your sons, and I will establish his kingdom.
He shall build me a house, and I will establish his throne forever.
I will be to him as a father, and he will be to me as a son; and my steadfast love I will not remove from him, as I removed it from the one who was before you.
And I will establish him in my house and in my kingdom forever, and his throne shall be established forever.
According to all these words and according to all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David.
And King David came and sat before the Lord, and said, 'Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house, that you have brought me this far?'
And was this too little in your eyes, O God? For you have spoken about the house of your servant for a great while to come, and have looked upon me as a man of high standing, O LORD God.
What more can David add to you for the honor of your servant? And you know your servant.
O Lord, for your servant's sake and according to your heart, you have done all this greatness, to make known all these great things.
O LORD, there is none like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
And who is like your people Israel, one nation on earth, whom God went to redeem for himself as a people, to make for himself a name through great and awesome things, by driving out nations from before your people whom you redeemed from Egypt?
And you have given your people Israel to be your own people forever, and you, O LORD, have become their God.
And now, O Lord, let the word you spoke concerning your servant and his house be confirmed forever; and do as you have spoken.
And may your name be established and magnified forever, saying, 'The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, is God to Israel; and the house of David your servant is established before you.'
For you, O my God, have revealed to the ear of your servant that you will build him a house; therefore your servant has found courage to pray before you.
And now, O Lord, you yourself are God, and you have spoken this good thing concerning your servant.
And now, you have been pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may stand before you forever; for you, O LORD, have blessed, and it is blessed forever.
