1 Chronicles 16

¹And they brought the ark of God and set it in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it; and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.

²And when David had finished offering up the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord.

³And he distributed to every person in Israel, both man and woman, to each one a loaf of bread, a cake of dates, and a cake of raisins.

⁴And he appointed before the ark of the LORD some of the Levites as ministers, to invoke, to give thanks, and to praise the LORD, the God of Israel.

⁵Asaph the chief, and his second Zechariah, Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel with harps and with lyres; and Asaph with cymbals, sounding out.

⁶And Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests with trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God.

⁷On that day David first inaugurated thanksgiving to the LORD by the hand of Asaph and his brothers.

⁸Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known his deeds among the peoples.

⁹Sing to him, make music to him; meditate on all his wonders.

¹⁰Glory in his holy name; let the heart of those who seek the LORD rejoice!

¹¹Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his face continually.

¹²Remember his wonders which he has done, his signs and the judgments of his mouth.

¹³O offspring of Israel his servant, O sons of Jacob, his chosen ones!

¹⁴He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth.

¹⁵Remember his covenant forever, the word that he commanded for a thousand generations.

¹⁶Which he made with Abraham, and his oath to Isaac.

¹⁷And he confirmed it to Jacob as a statute, to Israel as an everlasting covenant.

¹⁸saying, 'To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion of your inheritance.'

¹⁹When you were few in number, very few, and sojourners in it.

²⁰And they wandered from nation to nation, and from kingdom to another people.

²¹He allowed no man to oppress them, and he rebuked kings for their sake.

²²'Do not touch my anointed ones; and to my prophets do no harm.'

²³Sing to the LORD, all the earth! Proclaim his salvation from day to day.

²⁴Declare his glory among the nations, his wonders among all the peoples.

²⁵For great is the LORD and greatly to be praised; and awesome is he above all gods.

²⁶For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the LORD made the heavens.

²⁷Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his place.

²⁸Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples; ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.

²⁹Ascribe to the LORD the glory of his name; bring an offering and come before him; worship the LORD in holy splendor.

³⁰Tremble before him, all the earth! Yes, the world is established; it shall not be moved.

³¹Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; and let them say among the nations, 'The LORD reigns!'

³²Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it.

³³Then shall the trees of the forest sing for joy before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth.

³⁴Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever.

³⁵And say, 'Save us, O God of our salvation; gather us and deliver us from the nations, to give thanks to your holy name, to glory in your praise.'

³⁶Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting! And all the people said, 'Amen!' and praised the LORD.

³⁷And he left there, before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, Asaph and his brothers, to minister before the ark continually, as each day required.

³⁸And Obed-edom and their brothers — sixty-eight; and Obed-edom son of Jeduthun and Hosah as gatekeepers.

³⁹And Zadok the priest, and his brothers the priests, before the tabernacle of the LORD at the high place that was in Gibeon.

⁴⁰to offer burnt offerings to the LORD on the altar of burnt offering, continually, morning and evening, and according to all that is written in the law of the LORD which he commanded Israel.

⁴¹And with them were Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest of those chosen who were designated by name, to give thanks to the Lord, for his steadfast love endures forever.

⁴²And with them were Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals to sound aloud, and the instruments of music for God; and the sons of Jeduthun were at the gate.

⁴³And all the people went each to his house, and David returned to bless his household.
