Chronicles 10
Now the Philistines fought against Israel, and the men of Israel fled before the Philistines and fell slain on Mount Gilboa.
And the Philistines pressed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines struck Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul.
The battle pressed hard upon Saul, and the archers overtook him with the bow, and he was in anguish from the archers.
And Saul said to his armor-bearer, 'Draw your sword and pierce me with it, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me.' But his armor-bearer was not willing, for he feared greatly. So Saul took the sword and fell upon it.
And the armor-bearer saw that Saul had died; he also fell upon the sword and died.
So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his household died together.
And all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that they had fled and that Saul and his sons had died; and they abandoned their cities and fled, and the Philistines came and settled in them.
And on the next day, the Philistines came to strip the slain, and found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
They stripped him and took his head and his armor, and sent word throughout the land of the Philistines all around, to proclaim the good news to their idols and to the people.
They put his weapons in the house of their gods, and his skull they fastened in the house of Dagon.
And all Jabesh-Gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul.
All the valiant men arose and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
So Saul died in his unfaithfulness, by which he was unfaithful to the LORD, concerning the word of the LORD that he did not keep, and also for inquiring of a medium to seek guidance.
He did not inquire of the LORD; and the LORD put him to death and turned the kingdom to David son of Jesse.
